Two Engineering Professors Named to Highly Cited Researchers List

Huajian Gao, Walter Annenberg Professor of Engineering, and Yuri Bazilevs, E. Paul Sorensen Professor of Engineering, have been named to the 2018 Highly Cited Researchers List by Clarivate Analytics. This list recognizes world-class researchers selected for their exceptional research performance, demonstrated by production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science. The papers surveyed were those published and cited during 2006 - 2016 and which at the end of 2016 ranked in the top 1% by citations.

Gao has published over 460 papers which have been cited more than 39,900 times. According to Google Scholar, Gao has an h-index, a measure of both scholarly productivity and impact, of 95. His most highly cited paper, "Indentation size effects in crystalline materials: a law for strain gradient plasticity" has been cited over 3000 times. He has 11 papers which have been cited more than 500 times. Gao previously made the highly cited researchers list in 2015.

According to Google Scholar, Bazilevs has an h-index of 66, and more than 22,000 citations, including more than 17,000 citations since 2013. His most popular paper, "Isogeometric analysis: CAD, finite elements, NURBS, exact geometry and mesh refinement" has been cited over 3700 times. He has authored eight papers which have been cited more than 600 times. Bazilevs was one of only 4.8% of the researchers on the list to be named a highly cited researcher in two fields, engineering and computer science.

Other Brown University researchers on the list include Casey Dunn, Karl Kelsey, Kenneth Mayer, Leonard Mermel, Christopher Schmid, Shouheng Sun, and G.S. Tucker.
