Prima Hower, the Brown University School of Engineering Faculty Affairs Coordinator, has received the third annual Dean's Service Award. The award, established during the 2012-13 academic year, was created to recognize a non-managing employee who has made a specific contribution or provided outstanding service in the School of Engineering.
The award is an opportunity to recognize the performance of an individual who has been a positive instrument of change; made significant contributions; and who has provided outstanding service to our internal and external constituents.
As the School's first Faculty Affairs Coordinator, Hower manages a high volume of faculty affairs work, and has exceeded expectations, improving Engineering's faculty affairs reputation. During the 2014-15 school year alone, she processed more than 120 appointments and reappointments. She has educated herself on the policies and procedures for the appointments, many of which are quite complex, challenging, and unique. She is considered a collaborative and proactive peer both inside the School of Engineering and outside the University. Hower has become knowledgeable on visa requirements and interacts regularly with international students and faculty, making the School of Engineering a welcoming environment for them.
Approachable and committed to Brown University and the School of Engineering, Hower was presented with the award from Engineering Dean Larry Larson.
