Jennet Toyjanova, a fifth year doctoral student in the solid mechanics group at the Brown University School of Engineering, has won the best student paper award at the 2013 Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM) Conference.
Her paper was entitled, "3D Neutrophil Tractions in Changing Microenvironments," and was chosen as the best student paper presented in the area of Biological Systems and Materials. Toyjanova's co-authors on the paper include: Estefany Flores-Cortez, Rhode Island Hospital; Jonathan Reichner, Rhode Island Hospital; and Christian Franck, Brown University.
Her paper was selected by the Technical Division Committee from amongst a group of outstanding papers. Organized every year as part of the SEM annual conference, the student paper competitions were originated to encourage excellence in technical communication in the experimental mechanics field. The competition provides students with an opportunity to present their work and to learn from the experience.
