Engineering alum and Brown Class of 1982 graduate Steven R. Jordan — a longtime National Football League standout, member of the Minnesota Vikings Hall of Fame and business leader in an accomplished off-the-field career — will receive an honorary degree and deliver this year’s Baccalaureate address on Friday, April 30, at 5:00 p.m.
Bardiya Akhbari, a Ph.D. student in biomedical engineering, will speak about the importance of connection and community in an address to his fellow Class of 2021 graduates at the University’s Graduate School Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 1. Akbari said, "I'll talk about how our individual accomplishments wouldn’t be possible without our support of one another within Brown.”
An international leader in the mechanics of solids and structures, engineering alumnus Ares J. Rosakis ’80 Sc.M., ’82 Ph.D., is the recipient of the 2020/2021 Horace Mann Medal. The Medal is awarded at Commencement to a Brown University Graduate School alum who has made significant contributions in their field.
Biomedical engineering concentrator and senior orator George Kubai says, "I want to encourage people to dream bigger than themselves, to dream of removing barriers that stand in people’s way." He will address his fellow graduates at Commencement on Sunday, May 2.
