
Feng Lin has joined the Brown University School of Engineering as Associate Professor, with an appointment beginning July 1.
Lin comes to Brown from Virginia Tech, where he was Professor of Chemistry, and a Leo and Melva Harris Faculty Fellow. He was also jointly appointed in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and affiliated with the Macromolecules Innovation Institute. His interests include the design and synthesis, processing, characterization, and applications of energy materials in electrochemical systems. Lin’s most recent research topics cover advanced batteries and their energy-efficient manufacturing. His research group has been funded by the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the United States Department of Agriculture, and private companies.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech in 2016, Lin worked at QuantumScape Corporation as a senior member of the technical staff, and at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab as a postdoctoral fellow. His awards and recognitions include Rising Star in Technology Award, Startup Builder University Award, 2021 NSF CAREER award, ECS (Electrochemical Society) Battery Division Early Career Award, Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award (awarded from Oak Ridge Associated Universities), the Journal of Materials Chemistry Emerging Award, RCSA (Research Corporation for Science Advancement) Scialog Fellow, ACS-PRF (American Chemical Society-Petroleum Research Fund) Doctoral New Investigator, and an Energy Storage Materials Young Scientist Award.
Lin earned his bachelor degree in materials science and engineering from Tianjin University in 2009 and his Ph.D. in materials science from the Colorado School of Mines in 2012.
